Photo of the Day – Oct 22nd – and then Came the Airplane

Until the invention of airplanes camels were the only means of crossing the vast deserts of Africa and Asia. Ironically camels cannot cross barren deserts without human help. They need loads of grass and buckets of water to transverse the miles and miles of desert before them. In the winter the temp could fall as low as -12 degrees Fahrenheit. When darkness came camels and cameleers slept in stone shelters, often infested with rats and full of smoke

And then came the airplane  🙂
